The New York Metro Intergroup covers the 5 boroughs of New York City (Manhattan, Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island), the counties of Nassau, and Suffolk.
Following the Alcoholics Anonymous guidelines, an Intergroup Area consists of a geographic region with anywhere from five to twenty registered GSA meetings.

- An Intergroup Area may be a small geographic region, such as Manhattan because there are many meetings in the Area and efficient meetings typically require less than 20 voting members.
