The New York Metro Intergroup covers the 5 boroughs of New York City (Manhattan, Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island), the counties of Westchester, Nassau, and Suffolk and New Jersey.
Following the Alcoholics Anonymous guidelines, an Intergroup Area consists of a geographic region with anywhere from five to twenty registered GSA meetings.

- An Intergroup Area may be a small geographic region, such as Manhattan because there are many meetings in the Area and efficient meetings typically require less than 20 voting members.
