Intergroup Info

The New York Metro Intergroup covers the 5 boroughs of New York City (Manhattan, Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island), the counties of Nassau, and Suffolk.

Following the Alcoholics Anonymous guidelines, an Intergroup Area consists of a geographic region with anywhere from five to twenty registered GSA meetings.

        • The size of the Intergroup Area is determined by communication and service needs, including the:
          • Ease with which GSRs may travel to the Intergroup meeting
          • Efficiency with which the Intergroup can conduct its meetings
          • Types of issues shared by the groups in the Intergroup Area
          • Languages spoken by the groups.
      • An Intergroup Area may be a small geographic region, such as Manhattan because there are many meetings in the Area and efficient meetings typically require less than 20 voting members.

An Intergroup Area may be a large geographic region, such as Europe because there are fewer meetings in the Area and the groups share common issues.
